HISTORY
Over the past year, OSV made meaningful strides in student advocacy. We hosted a successful Advocacy Week, amplifying student voices at Queen’s Park. We welcomed a new member school and our first observer school to our growing network, met with over 45 MPPs, released our first two policy papers, and brought student leaders together for 3 conferences to connect and collaborate.
Over the course of the year the group met several times and aligned on key priorities. It was decided that a smaller group would be needed to carry the work forward as a majority of the initial groups terms were ending.
Student leaders from all across Ontario came together to discuss the future of provincial advocacy in Ontario. There was representation from 22 colleges across the Province. The group was referred to as the student voices.
The student voices aligned on key priorities and then decided that a smaller group would be needed to carry the work forward since a majority of the initials groups terms were ending.
The implementation committee was created, consisting of 9 member colleges. Conestoga, Centennial, Cambrian, Confederation, Fanshawe, Fleming SAC, Fleming Frost, Niagara & Sault.
In November 2022, it was decided that the best way forward would be to build a new advocacy organization and so OSV was created. We incorporated that month as a Non For Profit organization.
OSV hosted its first inaugural gala, hosting members & stakeholders from across the sector. The group also decided on it's 2nd annual advocacy priorities.
OSV's inaugural staff and board commenced their terms and focused on finalizing organizational policies and selecting advocacy priorities
